Head of Journalism/PR Chris Rushton made a spirited intervention at the Society of Editor’s conference yesterday. Here’s how the Guardian reported his robust attack on Trinity Mirror’s job cuts and ‘woeful’ local news websites  - no Christmas card from TM boss Sly Bailey for Chris this year.

“I have some sympathy with local newspaper editors but if you look at the quality of their sites, particularly Trinity Mirror’s, they are woeful beyond belief …

“You can’t argue it’s your patch if you don’t use it. You have not invested. You say you’re investing now, you have just announced 20% redundancies in Newcastle of editorial staff. How are you going to do that and cover the patch?”
