I would have thought the row a few weeks ago over Carol Thatcher’s use of the word golliwog and the subsequent withdrawal of a golliwog-style doll from a shop at the Queen’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk would have made anyone dealing with the public extremely careful about any link with the word, or the toy.
Not apparently in The Galleries shopping centre at Washington, where a shop called Home and Gift has two of them in its window.
I wonder if they are a bit naive about the possible implications, whether they just don’t care or whether they are trying to make a point!
